In San Antonio, some Methodist and Presbyterian congregations join Baptist congregations to support the work at the <br />"Medical Special Needs" shelter for huricane evacuees. The shelter is run by Baptist Child & Family Services. Meals for multiple shelters are prepared in the kitchen of Trinity Baptist Church Tri-Points facility with the help of the disaster relief ministry of Texas Baptist Men.

The Rev. Cynthia Rigby, W.C. Brown Professor of Theology at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, preached a sermon on humility at a General Assembly 2008 worship service.

"The rich need to sit down with the poor and join in the fishing, emptying themselves," Cynthia Rigby said. Mary Ellen Summerlin (Mission Presbytery) and Sarah Feltman Hegar (Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary) thought they were only sharing a bus to the San Jose Convention Center, but they had much more in common.
