Pastors: Stillwater congregation wants to welcome your students

Editor's note: We welcome this open letter seeking to connect new Oklahoma State University students with First Presbyterian, Stillwater. To help pastors, Christian educators and others find connections at other schools, here is a link to the PC(USA)'s campus ministry locator.

To pastors across Oklahoma (and the Synod):

The University Fellowship committee at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater is once again asking for your help in extending an invitation to anyone in your congregation who will be attending Oklahoma State University (OSU) in Stillwater later this year.

FPC Stillwater has two welcome fellowship events scheduled in August: a congregational cook-out following our 11 a.m. worship on August 23 and a potluck dinner sponsored by our committee especially for OSU students on August 30 at 6 p.m. Both events will be held in our new Fellowship Hall.

Our membership at FPC Stillwater includes many OSU faculty and staff members from a variety of academic disciplines and university departments, and they will be invited to the August 30 dinner as well. It will be a great opportunity for new OSU students to meet these individuals. They will also have the opportunity to meet other OSU students.

We hope to be able to communicate with your OSU students throughout the year and so would ask that you encourage them to provide us with their personal contact information. They can do that by sending an e-mail to Associate Pastor Leah Hrachovec at Lhrachovec@swbell.net, that includes their name, permanent address, local address if they know it, e-mail address and phone number(s).

Finally, we know that new OSU students and their parents may be planning to visit Stillwater this summer, perhaps to attend New Student Orientation or Camp Cowboy. When they are in town, we invite them to come by our church at 524 South Duncan (a short distance from the Student Union if they drive south on Duck Street.) Our summer Sunday worship is held at 9:30 a.m. and our summer church hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Thank you for your help in passing along this information. We are anxious to meet and minister to students coming from your congregation, and to offer them a church home away from home.End of story
