Return of a church is time for reunion, celebration and reflection

N EW ORLEANS — The Korean Presbyterian Church of New Orleans actually accomplished two events on Feb. 10, 2008. One, they officially reopened their beautiful Lakeview property to their congregation and friends; two, they installed Rev. Dr. Young Chang Jin to his new post.

The congregation began returning to New Orleans to worship in October of 2005 at John Calvin Presbyterian, Metairie , La., and treated the Metairie congregation to the universality of our denomination. When their building was completed they returned last October and began putting the finishing touches on their property at 7001 Canal Blvd.

Simon Park, Interim Coordinator of PDA was on hand along with Rev. Dr. Alan D. Cutter, general presbyter and Jean Marie Peacock, associate presbyter pro tem for congregational development and disaster recovery, to celebrate and share the happiness at the return. Rev. Sun Kim preached and acknowledged how the rebuilding took place with assistance attracting global response. Coming into their church in every form possible, from spiritual to financial. In an earlier interview Simon Park pointed out when he escorted a work team from Korea, “Disasters like this bring out the best of our denomination.”

The proof of Park’s statement truly shows in the smiles of the leaders and visitors at their dedication.

Those of you that couldn't make the event may contact and offer personal comments to Dr. Jin at yjin94@yahoo.com.
