San Gabriel Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Texas, engages in an active youth ministry. Here are some comments from Rev. Jeanie Stanley, after returning from the last trip in the summer of 2007.
“This was my seventh year to be blessed by our mission trip to Reynosa. It was my son’s seventh trip, too. John says this year was special because we took Faith-Fe Presbyterian Church in Lockhart. If there is anything better than participating in the mission of God, it is introducing others to the Lord’s work of love.
Last year San Gabriel sent twelve of us. This year there were more than thirty. Every year there has been a different group and a unique experience. Grace Presbyterian Church in Round Rock took us the first two years. For three additional years we traveled and worked together. Last year we traveled and worked alone. This year we took Faith Fe.
Every year I am humbled by the poverty we experience. I treasure my time with the youth and adults on the mission trip, but I also need the experience of poverty to understand God’s love and power. My time of work and worship with Faith Ministries and our San Gabriel team in Reynosa remind me that we are one in the Spirit. Th e hot days, this year beside a garbage dump, remind me of how blessed we are. When we care for the least of the least, we meet our Lord and Savior.”
